How is trust earned?
As a third generation family company, we know a lot about earning trust. Some of homeowner’s insurance clients have been with company for over 30 years. Our carriers and clients appreciate knowing that person on the other end of the telephone or knowing that our office is right down the street. Remembering that people sell to people, not businesses is important. At the end of the day, it’s all about building a relationship with a variety of people including parents, families and our community.
How does one earn trust?
- Do what you say you’re going to do
- Keep important information in confidence
- Establish your credibility
- Remain true to yourself
- Apologize when you are wrong
Do what you say you’re going to do
Seems pretty straightforward however a lot of us fail to do what we say we’re going to do and then make excuses for it. If you cannot do something, simply say so. It will make life a lot easier in the long-run.
Keep important information in confidence
This is the most basic way to establish trust. By not sharing sensitive information with third parties establishes a greater comfort zone between people. The lines of communication will flow better between both parties when they are certain that their personal information will not end up on public social media sites.
Establish your credibility
One can establish credibility in many ways such as going to school, obtaining a certification, or writing a book. It is important to promote these achievements and share your expertise with others.
Remain true to yourself
Everyone should maintain their character at all times. Remember your values and act accordingly. There is a time and place for everything however how you act in a variety of situations should be consistent with who you are and not who others think you should be.
Apologize when you are wrong
Many people have trouble apologizing. However, in the grand scheme of things it is better to apologize and maintain your relationship. It is not worth throwing away a friendship or business partnership over something petty that will not matter next week, month, or year.
