Zip Cars and liability Insurance
Have you heard of the latest craze in car rentals? ZipCars,a car-sharing service has become quite popular in the tri-state area. Bybecoming a member, one can rent a car for a couple hours with free gas.Apparently, people would rather use these cars than calling a cab service orusing traditional car rental services.
Ron Lieber from The New York Times wrote extensive posts on the downsides of using a ZipCar.One of these happens to be that the company puts drivers at risk with theirlimited liability insurance coverage. Ron writes, “It [ZipCars] caps the liability insurance coverage it provides for members at $300,000 per incident,no matter how many people they may hurt.”
This may not be enough if you injure someone or their property while driving a Zipcar. You can be heldpersonally responsible for medical and lawyer fees if your accident ends up infront of a judge.
