The Future of Cars
The Insurance Journal reports on the Top
10 Car Technologies for Mature Drivers. While all of these features seem
helpful, we can forget about going for a nice peaceful drive. Imagine when you’re driving down a dark
narrow road and your smart headlights adjust so that you can see the road
better, great right? However, coming down the road on the other side is another
driver driving with his smart headlights that automatically adjust so that he
can see. See the problem? Each car is adjusting for their driver but not for
the environment. Both drivers are currently blinded until they pass each other,
which is not an improvement from current driving conditions.
Reverse monitoring sounds like a great improvement
especially for those who aren’t great at backing up. However, lane departure
warnings sound like they would be problematic. If you got a voice warning or a
beeping noise every time you departed a lane you might experience a very
disruptive car ride. These warnings would cause more harm than good by
increasing distractions within your car.
What do you think about these improvements for mature
drivers?
