Five Ways to protect Your identity this Cyber Monday

One of the best times to shop online is the Monday after
Thanksgiving. You can get all the deals you didn’t get a chance to grab on
Black Friday.

Here’s five tips to help you shop safely:

1. Make sure you’re
using an encrypted site when it’s time to enter your credit card
information. You can ensure this by looking for a padlock in the address bar in
front of the url or look for https. Also, look for an SSL logo, which signifies
standard security technology being used on that website.

2. Make sure your
anti-virus protection is up to date so that you don’t get any viruses or
malware from random pop-ups.

3. Rely on your gut.
If the deal is too good to be true, it probably is. If you feel something is
off about a particular website, DON’T USE IT. There are plenty of hackers and
scammers taking advantage of shoppers at this busy time.

4. Make sure to
change your passwords regularly for the sites that you normally shop on.
This is an extra safety measure to protect yourself from account breaches.

5. Beware of
phishing emails. These e-mails are
disguised to try to collect sensitive information from you. They may seem like
they’re coming from legitimate companies and services that you use. Look out
for misspellings and bad grammar as a signal that this is a bogus email.
