New Jersey Driving Law Updates
Last year, major strides were made to enhance driver safety. The following laws/bills have been updated in 2012.
Kulesh, Kiber and Bolis’ Law – If someone is caught violating NJ’s hands-free cell phone law, it will be considered reckless driving if an accident results in homicide and assault by a vehicle. Government is also considering increasing the fine for texting/ talking on a mobile phone while driving.
Jessica Rogers’ Law – In the case of road rage, the consequence has now be increased to three to five years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Move Over Law – More awareness campaigns will be conducted to promote this law that requires drivers to move over when they see an emergency vehicle with flashing lights.
Bill A-1711 – Higher penalties for not using a booster seat for children in motor vehicles is being considered.
Bill S-1533 – Healthcare providers will be able to submit medical records to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commision (This bill is still under review)
Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Transparency and Accountability Act – requires disclosure of budgets and expenses, agendas for public meetings, and employment, gifts and compensation restrictions for employees and officers of tolling agencies
