The Evolution of Car Keys

Car Keys are slowly starting to go the way of cassettes, the Walkman, and rotary phones. The main purpose of early car keys was to ward off car thieves. The mid-90s gave rise to the transponder chip that was placed in the key header to sync with a vehicle’s security system. Transponder chips also partnered with keyless-entry systems.

The 2000s brought key-less remote starts and key-less door locking. We also started to see driver profiles stored in newer vehicles. With these new technologies, come more costs to have these features. The latest technological car feature is starting, locking and unlocking your car all from your smartphone.

All NJ drivers need car insurance. Let us insure your cars today.
